Hess Truck and Helicopter - 2006 Review
Regarding the previous post - it is rather misleading and unfair to give a product a low rating when really it is the vendor that deserves it. Amazon not only provides the opportunity, but encourages feedback on vendors once a purchase is made.My son received this toy from my dad for his first Christmas when he was 10 mos old. At the time I thought he was a little too young for and put it away (not to mention my possible subconscious guilt for indirectly supporting Big Oil...haha). I rediscovered it in his closet when he was about 18 mos old. I wish I had found it sooner, because he has played with it nearly every day since and he is now 2.
It is very well constructed/sturdy and has some cool light features along the entire body (the helicopter too) that can be turned on/off, or varied for a different light effect by pushing one of two unobtrusive buttons on the top of the truck. When the on/off switch is "on" all of the lights come on, and when one of the buttons is pushed at that time a subset of the lights will stobe in a pattern. In the "off" position, when these buttons are pushed, only that subset of lights comes on and then turns off after a bit, which is a neat feature and a nice battery saver.
For the helicopter, the switch does more than on/off. It reads lights/off/lights and rotors. Pretty self explanatory, but the cool thing is that you can turn on just the lights and then push a little button on the side to make the rotors spin, which again, uses less batteries. And it is fun for little hands pretending to fly by turning it on and off again.
The helicopter fits into grooves in the bed so it stays put fairly well when the truck is being moved around. And there is a pull out ramp at the end of the bed that my son likes to use to drive things up and onto the truck. He puts all kinds of things on the bed of the truck, from matchbox cars to wooden blocks. Unfortunately, other cars or vehicles tend to roll right off. If I had one beef it is that there is no "tail gate" of sorts to keep things on the bed. Perhaps will have to look for another larger flatbed in the future.
All and all a great toy.
